MW411 Foundation of Midwifery Practice
In this unit, students will examine the legislation and professional standards governing midwifery practice in PNG. The roles and scope of practice of the midwife are explored, acknowledging the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based practice. Providing care to women and families within the social, demographic, and cultural context of PNG is introduced and key concepts around woman-centred care are explored including staff attitudes and respectful midwifery care. Midwifery practice will be examined within the overall context of recognition of fundamental human rights and the core responsibility of midwives to act within these parameters.
