The Medical and Surgical Nursing and Pharmacology 4 unit provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of the diagnoses, management and care of patients with pain, endocrine disorders and cancer. Here, Learners explore competencies needed to identify health problems and use problem-solving approaches to manage patient care. Learners apply theoretical learning into practice and demonstrate therapeutic clinical nursing skills in patient care management. The unit enables learners to demonstrate an understanding of the influence of pathological processes in human anatomy and physiology and the effects on mental, social, cultural and spiritual aspects, thus developing a holistic perspective to nursing assessment and care. Learners will be engaged on a clinical basis to apply problem-solving approaches to identify and manage health problems and to develop competence and confidence in applying advanced nursing skills.

UNIT DESCRIPTION

The management and leadership in nursing unit introduces management principles and their application in nursing to manage a health facility and maintain standards. Students develop knowledge with administrative and management skills and leadership qualities for a health care setting to achieve goals and priorities required to organise work, time, supplies and personnel. This unit enables students to apply leadership and management qualities to effectively deliver quality health care with available resources. Nursing management helps nurses to gain knowledge and skill to manage a health facility and develop leadership and management qualities to effectively deliver quality health care. It lays a foundation for nurses who progress into specialty areas in nursing management.
