EDPE/CCVE-202 Ethics in the Teaching Profession
This unit sets out the key principles of good conduct and practice for teachers in Papua New Guinea. It is intended to guide teachers’ practice, judgments and decisions. The content of the unit will seek to teach student teachers about the standards expected of them in the teaching profession. The unit encourages student teachers to strive to be role-models and ethical leaders and to act within the community in a manner that enhances the prestige of the profession. Where appropriate, information and communication technology (ICT) will be used to support the teaching and learning in this unit.
EDCD202 Health Education
This unit will enable student-teachers to teach ‘Health Education’ at Elementary, JuniorPrimary and SeniorPrimary levels. It aligns with the Government’s Vision 2050 for people to be healthy, skilled and knowledgeable. Health education is multi-dimensional and includes physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being of persons. The unit addresses a range of social and community issues such as reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, physical activity, safety, drugs and alcohol. As well as learning the relevant subject knowledge, student-teachers will learn how to plan, teach and assess the content in an interactive and stimulating environment at each level. Wherever possible learning should be practical and take place outside the classroom, in the real world.
EDHU201 The Cultural Environment of Papua New Guinea
This unit will enable student-teachers to teach ‘The Cultural Environment’ at Elementary, Junior Primary and Senior Primary levels. As well as learning the relevant subject knowledge, student-teachers will learn how to plan, teach and assess the content in an interactive and stimulating environment at each level. Wherever possible learning should be practical and take place outside the classroom. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be used here appropriate to support the teaching and learning in this unit.
EDMA202 Algebra.
EDMA202 ‘Algebra’ is a unit taught in the second
semester to year two students. This unit will enable student-teachers to
enhance their capacity to appreciate and teach Algebra at the Junior and Senior
Primary Levels. The nature of algebra Mathematics educators should embrace
errors and misconceptions in their teaching and should not regard them as
obstacles to learning but rather engage with them for a better understanding of
algebraic concepts by students. Where appropriate, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be used to support the teaching and learning in this unit.
EDEN202 Writing
This unit will enable student-teachers to teach ‘Writing’ at Elementary, JuniorPrimary and SeniorPrimarylevels.As well as learning the relevant subject knowledge, student-teachers will learn how to plan, teach and assess the content in an interactive and stimulating environment at each level.Wherever possible, learning should be practical and take place outside the classroom in the real world. Where appropriate, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be used to support the teaching and learning in this unit.
EDPD202 Child Development and Inclusive Education
Description of the course
This unit will enable student – teachers to understand the principles of Child development and Inclusive Education and to be able to apply this at Elementary, Junior Primary and Senior Primary levels. As well as learning their relevant subject knowledge, student teachers will learn how to assess individual children’s learning development and abilities in a class and be able to support their learning needs in an interactive and simulating environment at each level. Student – teachers will learn that, wherever possible, specialist professional attention should be given to student with special needs. Where appropriate, information and Communication Technology (CIT) will be used to support the teaching in this unit. There will be a four weeks practicum, which will be an essential part of this unit and student teachers will be required to pass this element of the unit before being allowed to progress on to the next part of the programmed.
