EDRE/CCVE-201 Introduction to the Fundamental of Christian Moral Decision Making

This unit introduces student-teachers to the study of ethics as it relates to the teaching profession. The unit will assist student-teachers to create a framework for ethical decision-making and help them to explore professional ethical dilemmas and to identify ethical courses of action in Papua New Guinea’s complex, culturally diverse context. It explores the ethics and philosophy of human behaviour as the foundation of teachers’ thought and action. The unit is designed to assist student-teachers to think ethically about the teaching profession.

EDCD201 Personal Development

This unit will enable student-teachers to teach ‘Personal Development’, including Physical Education, at Elementary, JuniorPrimary and SeniorPrimary levels. The unit supports the Government’s Vision 2050 and embraces the guiding principles of integral human development, equality and participation, self-reliance and Papua New Guinean ways. The unit encourages student-teachers to confront personal issues and deal with them responsibly. As well as learning the relevant subject knowledge, student-teachers will learn how to plan, teach and assess the content in an interactive and stimulating environment at each level. Wherever possible, learning should be practical and take place outside the classroom, in the real world.

EDSC201 Physical Sciences

This unit will enable student-teachers to teach ‘Physical Science’ at Elementary, JuniorPrimary and SeniorPrimary levels. As well as learning the relevant subject knowledge, student-teachers will learn how to plan, teach and assess the content in an interactive and stimulating environment at each level. Wherever possible, learning should be practical and take place outside the classroom, in the real world. Scientific enquiry skills will be an important feature in this unit.

EDPD201 Assessment and Planning

This unit will enable student-teachers to understand the principles of the cycle of ‘Assessment and Planning’ at Elementary, JuniorPrimary and SeniorPrimary levels and to be able apply them in their classroom environment. As well as learning the relevant subject knowledge, student-teachers will learn how to use assessment to monitor the progress of their own students’ learning in an interactive and stimulating environment at each level. They will learn about the importance of fairness in the grading of students’ work and also the value of recognising and rewarding good behaviour. The student-teachers’ planning skills will be developed further.

EDMA201 Geometry

This unit will enable student teachers to teach ‘Geometry’ at, Junior Primary and Senior Primary levels. As well as learning the relevant subject knowledge, student teachers will learn how to plan, teach/demonstrate and assess the content in an interactive and stimulating environment to meet the standards and the objectives stated at each level. Wherever possible, learning should be practical and take place inside and outside the classroom. Mathematical problem-solving skills will be an important feature of this unit. Where appropriate, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be used to support the teaching and learning in this unit.


EDEN201 Reading

 Course Description

This unit will enable student-teachers to teach Reading at the lower and Upper Primary School levels . Besides learning the relevant subject knowledge, student-teachers will learn how to plan, teach and assess the content in an interactive and stimulating environment at each level.The unit will also give student-teachers the opportunity to develop their own positive reading habits and to instill in children in primary schools a reading culture.
